12. What if we decide not to participate? Could this area then be forced to host a facility?

The Partnership believes that if we do reject hosting a geological disposal facility it would be very difficult for any Government to then to impose it on this area.

The Government says that if this does happen the first stage would be for them to talk to communities that have withdrawn from the process about what had caused them to withdraw. There could be further rounds of calls for volunteers along adapted lines and there could be a further consultation on how to improve the process. They say the worst case scenario could be a full scale consultation on alternative site selection processes to allow Government to proceed in managing this waste.
